Marida Yallock was taken up by Stephen Ewen in 1840. In 1854 Daniel MacKinnon, pioneer Scots settler, acquired the lease and constructed the first section of the present homestead complex in a severe Scottish vernacular design. In the mid 1860s and 1870s the homestead was extended with construction of the central single storey block and north wing in an unusual Colonial vernacular design of harled bluestone construction.
